Colour Coding Of Patterns

In order to identify the different part of the pattern (pattern, core prints, surfaces to be milled), the American Foundryman's Society has adopted the following colour codes for painting patterns. 

Nonferrous
Pattern - yellow
Coreprint - black
Machined areas - red
Loose piece mating areas - yellow with red strips
Gating for mounted patterns - yellow

Ferrous
Pattern - black
Coreprint - yellow
Machined areas - red
Loose piece mating areas - yellow
Gating for mounted patterns - yellow


There are other colours for other types of metals.
